Noel Due (Rev Dr): Word and Spirit: Authority and Interpretation in a Postmodern World

Presented at the ACC conference on Thursday 12th September 7.30 pm

It has become a truism to say that two issues above all others define the postmodern condition: its attitude to meaning and its settled incredulity towards meta-narratives. In view of all these things Noel makes some simple suggestions for pastoral ministry today and encourages people to preach the whole counsel of God in the Scriptures, devoting ourselves to addressing problems of biblical illiteracy and the dumbing down of worship, so that we don't keep reducing our content to the lowest common denominator and letting our light shine in the darkness.

EL100 Bible Challenge Plenary Session

Eric Swavley from Scripture Union (QLD) gave an overvew of the EL100 process and this was followed by a theological reflection from Rev Greg Pearce, UCA Minister at Coromandel Valley on the morning of Friday 13th September. The idea of the bible challenge developed from an understanding that fewer and fewer Christians are reading the bible on a regular basis. Simply put, E100 is a Bible Reading Challenge that gets people reading the Bible they already own. It dares people to pick up their Bible, re-engage the scriptures and allow God to do something powerful through His Word. 100 bible passages are chosen to help Christians gain an overview of the bible. Full information about the program can be found on the website: E100
