New ACC Congregation

The Booragul UC Congregation (in the beautiful Lake Macquarie area, near Newcastle), which has recently joined ACC, invited the Hunter ACC Cluster to hold its 24 July meeting at Booragul as a combined venture. The Hunter Cluster, which meets about ten times each year to encourage ACC members from a number of non-ACC congregations was delighted to accept. (See the new ACC sign on our photo page)

Rev Ian Weeks and Anne Weeks presented a study, "Persevering in our Confession". Commencing with the recent example of the Presbyterian Church USA capitulating to over 30 plus years of homosexual lobby pressures, this provided a comprehensive overview of renewal movements within and beyond the Uniting Church in Australia, and of our need for patience and sustained effort to proclaim the truth in the face of weariness. Considerable discussion followed. The meeting acknowledged that the ACC is primarily concerned about our failure to accept and proclaim the authority of Scripture and is not just a reaction to "Gay Rights".

Given that the 2011 NSW Synod is being held in Newcastle in September, the meeting also discussed raising the ACC profile at the Synod meeting, including holding a prayer breakfast. The NSW ACC Committee, led by Ian Weeks have taken up this suggestion, and look forward to supporting ACC and other evangelical members in fellowship during the Synod.

The Hunter Cluster appreciated the comfortable facilities, the warm fellowship and wonderful hospitality of the members of the Booragul Congregation, all in sight of our beautiful Lake Macquarie on a sunny afternoon. We look forward to future collaboration with this keen congregation.
Alton Bowen, ACC Hunter Cluster Convenor
