Stand on Prayer: September 2018

SEPTEMBER 2018 STAND: Month of Prayer and Fasting

Ephesians 6:13 (NIV) Therefore put on the full armour of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.

Grace and Peace to you in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,
First of all I want to thank all the ACC members, congregations and clusters who took part in the Sacred Season.  It was truly wonderful.  I know some of you may feel discouraged with events, as they have unfolded.  However the Lord is faithful.  He hasn’t left us.  Please be encouraged that our ACC members who were also Assembly members spoke with much courage, boldness, and Christlikeness.  We did have a faithful witness at the Assembly.  Following Assembly there has been much perseverance in prayer and seeking of the Lord.   Something is happening within us.  It is not time for us to give in to despair but to press in with faith and trust.  Let us hold firmly the hope that our Living Head of the Church, the Lord Jesus Christ, will come, assess and deal with us, even as a remnant, that we might be able to live and endure through the changes of History, through the news of His completed work.

September Stand:  Month of Prayer and Fasting September 2018

During the month of September the Assembly of Confessing Congregations Prayer Network is declaring a month of prayer and fasting.  In June we began the Sacred Season of Prayer and Fasting that took us up to the end of Assembly.  After the Assembly made their decision to allow same-gender marriage, the various networks that were standing apart from this decision decided to have 40 days of prayer and fasting to wait on the Lord and listen.  That will be finishing tomorrow (31st August).  However as you are well aware there is still much need of prayer at this crucial time of decision-making and implementation of what we should do as a Confessing Movement to stand.  So the ACC Prayer Network is taking up the baton again and we urge all ACC members, congregations and clusters to be earnest in prayer during the month of September.   You may have also heard that unfortunately the Assembly has announced that this will be the month when same-gender marriage in the UCA will begin.   So prayers are urgently needed.   Our theme for this month of praying and fasting is to “Stand”.

As you probably all know our ACC conference and AGM will be occurring from the 17th – 19th September in Sydney.  At this conference we will need to face together some very important matters of how we as a confessing movement will respond together to the Assembly marriage decision.  You will have received notice of the proposals recommended by the National Council.   The “September Stand: Month of Prayer and Fasting”, will occur in the lead up to, during and following the ACC meeting.

What will we be praying and fasting for?

  • Firstly we will be fasting and praying as a confessing movement for wisdom and discernment as to what the Lord Jesus Christ, our living Head is wanting us to do at this time.
  • Secondly we will be praying for unity with all the groups that are standing apart and that ACC will find her role and place in the overall plan.  Some will be attending a meeting from the different networks following the ACC Conference.
  • Thirdly we will be praying for the wisdom, courage and strength to put into practise what is the Lord has shown us to do.
  • Fourthly we will be pastorally praying for all ACC members, congregations and clusters in this difficult time of transition.

How will we be praying and fasting?
During September we encourage your ACC Congregations and Clusters to once again have a prayer meeting once or twice in September as you did during the Sacred Season.  Those of you who are not coming to the Conference you may consider having a prayer time during the conference.    We will once again be having a prayer rally, so please let us know if you are having a prayer meeting in your congregation, cluster or friends.
We encourage you to join the prayer zoom times by phone, computer or device.   If you aren’t comfortable using technology we have found a way for you to join in by giving us your number and we can ring you and add you into the meeting.  Please let us know if technology or cost has been a barrier.  Don’t let it stop you joining in because there is a way to overcome this simply. The regular Zoom web meetings are:
Wednesday 8:00 am   AEST
Sunday 3:00 pm  AEST (Communion)

Please email the ACC office to get links and phone numbers to ring.

Some ACC State groups will also be having one or two prayer zoom times in September.

May the Lord Jesus Christ richly bless you richly as you persevere in prayer for His glory
