Acts 2:7-8

17th June 2015

Utterly amazed, they asked: "Are not all these men who are speaking Galileans? Then how is it that each of us hears them in his own native language?" (Acts 2:7-8).
When the Holy Spirit came God's people were gathered from many different nations in Jerusalem. They were gathered for Pentecost which was the celebration of the first fruits of the harvest. The first fruits of the harvest are a guarantee of what is to come: the main body of the harvest. The first fruits harvested also display the quality of the rest of the harvest.
So as the first 120 believers were filled with the Spirit they began boldly proclaiming the Good News of Jesus in many different languages as the Spirit gave them ability. 3000 believed from nations all over the world. These newly converted believers in Jesus then went home, filled with the Spirit too, proclaiming the Good News of Jesus.
These new believers were the first fruits of the harvest! They were the beginning of the spread of the message of Jesus throughout the world. We currently live in the age of the main body of the harvest, where daily around our world, 10s of thousands of people are becoming Christians. Unnoticed by this world God is powerfully at work and the harvest is in full-swing!
