SEEDS FOR HARVESTING 9-18

 

John 15:10

"When you obey my commandments

 you remain in my love."

 

Here Jesus is stating that

it is essential that we

 'remain’ in his love.

 

We don't obey God because we have to

but because he loves us

and we, in turn, love him. 

 

The more sincerely we love him,

the easier it is to obey his commandments.

 

With obedience comes trust

and because we trust Jesus,

we then have the ability to

 obey his commandments. 

 

This love of God

has been described as a covenant love,

an everlasting love,

and Jesus' death on the cross

could be described as sacrificial love. 

 

It is only through God's

all encompassing and powerful love

that we can obey his commandments.

 

When Jesus says 'my commandments'

he is talking about all that he has shared

with the disciples

in his three-year earthly ministry.
