The Christian’s Comfort

24th October 2009

"Can any of you by worrying add a single hour to your span of life? If then you are not able to do so small a thing as that, why do you worry about the rest? - In Him we live and move and have our being." (Luke 12:25, Acts 17:28)

What a relief to realise that nothing finally depends on us. We depend upon our Heavenly Father. Jesus bore our sin in His death. God has removed our shame forever. He tells me to believe - and I believe.

God tells me I am His adopted child because of Jesus. He tells me to believe it and I believe.

God tells me that He will take care of His children that things may hurt, but that nothing will ever harm or separate me from Him. He tells me to believe it - and I believe.

All the wonderful promises that God makes and guarantees by the death and resurrection of Jesus are for me. The promises that He makes known, they are for me to hang on to in this moment.

To know this is to rest in God's hands. Yet, while this sounds true I cannot help but be conscious of those things I have not done and should have done, and those things in my life that come between me and God. Then comes His amazing word. "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you shall be saved." In the Gospels Jesus said to a needy woman, "Take heart, your faith has made you whole." He is the one who saves and makes me whole. Now I can trust and rest in Him. All that is left for me to do is to thank Him forever.
