NSW ACC Chair's Report AGM 2010
Read Alan Russell's report to the NSW ACC Movement's AGM in April 2010.
Jude 1-2
Jude, a servant of Jesus Christ and brother of James. To those who are called, who are beloved in God the Father and kept safe for Jesus Christ: May mercy, peace and love be yours in abundance.
We come as those who are called and loved to live in the abundance of God's mercy, peace and love. The epistle of Jude is a letter for the ACC to remind us of who we are and with what we contend. Again the Committee of the Acc-NSW Movement thank you the members for your prayers and support as together we have lived up to:
"Confessing the Lord Jesus Christ. Proclaiming the Truth. Renewing the Church."
1. The NSW Committee. We have met on Fridays at Wesley Institute on the 21st August 2009 and at St David's UCA, Haberfield on the 29th November 2009 and 19th February 2010.We had a General Meeting at Sutherland UCA on the 10th October 2009 when Lupe Tapueleule spoke of the hopes and the vision for an ACC Youth Strategy. A motion was passed requesting the ACC Executive to prayerfully consider a Youth Segment within the 2010 Conference. We also received an offer that ACC National Conference to be hosted by NSW be held at Camden UCA ( Rev Colin Seymour). We as a Committee after visiting Camden accepted this offer and greatly appreciate the generosity of this fellowship.
We have sought to keep in touch with members and individual congregations. I am encouraged by the number of members involved in Presbytery's and the mission of the UCA. We have a courageous part to play. I am very conscious of the prayerful upholding of each other. We appreciate the ongoing work of the National Executive and particularly the inspiration of the National Conferences and the work of the Commissions.
2. Working with Wesley Institute. We are thankful for the hospitality provide for Committee Meetings over the last 3 years .In July 2009 new management of Wesley Institute meant a change and we sought and were welcomed to conduct the remaining committee meetings at St David's UCA, Haberfield. Jim Harrison and Peter Davis have again provided learning and inspirational opportunities for all members. Congratulations to Peter Davis for the awarding of his Doctorate. The Wesley Institute Day Conference was held on 1st August 2009. An other day of great teaching. Thank you Jim & Peter for arranging such quality and depth of teaching in New and Old Testament Studies and also Pastoral Care subjects. The Ministry Workers Retreat at Meroo this year is being held on the 7-9th June. Keynote speaker is Dr Holly Schut. We have valued the Rev Dr Peter Davis work on our Committee and in congregations. He is now a member of the National Executive.
3. ACC-Tonga. The Rev Dr Mele Fakahua-Radcliffe and Fatai Slender continue to provide leadership within the Tonga community and relate to other ethnic congregations. They and the Rev Ngan ha Le work with the Cross Cultural Commission of the National Executive. We need to pay more attention to the needs of our ethnic congregations and build relationships. Pray and help us establish such connections.
4. ACC National Conference & AGM. Held at Alexandra Headland, Sunshine Coast, Queensland 3-5 September 2009 this was again a significant time for ACC members to come together for teaching and enthusing in the faith. Papers were presented and speakers much appreciated. The Rev Dr David Millikan's keynote address and other papers have been faithfully published in ACC Catalyst. Also we note with appreciation the coverage given the Rev Peter Chapman's address to us "Confessions of a Gen-X Evangelical." This magazine is impacting the whole of the UCA and beyond. Congratulations to the editorial staff.
The Committee have been busy making arrangements for the ACC Conference & AGM to be held 4-6 September2010 in Sydney at the Camden UCA. You will have received reports of our progress and today we further address this matter. Thank you to Colin Seymour and the congregation as they work with us. Please note the advertising of this event in April Insights and draw attention to it amongst your congregation and friends. This is a great opportunity for us to confess and challenge the NSW Synod. Seek to make it a must for attendance and share the blessing God has in store.
5. Synod Relationships NSW. We have not had any conversations this year as no need had particularly arisen. Resource Ministry and minister's available for placement is still a matter of concern. If there are matters to be raised please contact us so that they may be addressed.
6. Visitation and Communication. We appreciate the deputation work of Peter Davis and Peter Bentley. Alton Brown has worked hard in the Hunter providing leadership in that cluster. We are fortunate to have good exchange between Peter B and Bruce Fairhall our Secretary. Both have provided us with excellent contact and kept us well informed.
7. In Conclusion. Where would we be without Peter Bentley's wise counsel, patience and faithful support. Thank you Peter. Bruce is a great secretary and encourager carrying me through this year when I had other responsibilities to meet. Member of the Committee are very supportive and faithful to our work as the ACC- NSW Movement. Although we do not have a state prayer convenor I acknowledge the faithful work of the Rev Anne Hibbard whose continued calls to prayer and fasting has encouraged us to approach with boldness God's throne of grace. Thank you to all members called and loved of God in Christ. I value your prayers and support.
