Enjoying the Biblical Time-Line

14th February 2014

Introduction:

It was sociologist and author Hugh McKay who pointed out that Australians are living in an age of redefinition. One obvious and scary reality confronts us every time we switch on the "telly". People are watching more, reading less. As our literary skills decline our appetite to digest visual media and to listen to tabloid stories seem insatiable.

When it comes to reading the Bible Greg Clarke from the Bible Society suggests that in our cultural redefinition it is a scandal that generations of Australians have been robbed of the Bible. Kerry's illustrated Time-Line is hardly a national answer but it provides a wonderful resource to leaders and teachers because it encourages a visual and story way of introducing people to the Bible.

How to use the resource sheets:

(1) The Time-Line is well detailed and it is important that the presenter prepares well by knowing the Biblical text.
(2) Divide the Time-Line into suitable sections for your purposes.
(3) Know the background well and practise talking about it so that you are comfortable and confident when it comes to explaining the story.
(4) Be a creative story teller. Ask God to heighten your imagination. Bring the narrative alive by using your own words, apply its lessons, encourage discussion.
(5) Finally lead the participants into handling and using the Bible as God's Word. Invite them to confirm the story or to prepare for the next session.
(6) Kerry Lorimer encourages your use of the Time Line and invites you to contact her with helpful feed back.
