LUKE 23:34

"Father forgive them

for they do not know what they are doing."

 

How would the heavenly father feel

when he asked the son he loved

to drink the cup of bitter crucifixion?

How would he feel when he heard

the enemies of Jesus cry

“Crucify him”?

 

Jesus knew those who drove the nails

would not realise that those nails

pierced the hands and feet

of the Son of God,

so he prayed

“Father forgive them.”

 

The son’s suffering

would be mixed with

the father’s forgiveness.

 

The father would know

that Jesus' suffering would

open the door of the Kingdom of God

to millions who loved Jesus. 

 

“Did e'er such love

or sorrow meet

or thorns compose

so rich a crown?”
