Thirsting for God

11th March 2013

SEEDS FOR HARVESTING 8/9

Psalm 42:2
"My soul thirsts for God, for the living God."
We should be continually thirsting for the "living God".
This is not about dying but being conscious
of the presence of God in our lives day by day.

The lack of liquids in our bodies makes us thirsty.
Denied water we shall surely die.
We drink water not only so that we can preserve our life,
but water also keeps our bodies free of tension,
and in harmony.

As much as we strive to do this, we so often fail.
The harmony within our minds and spirits
comes not from our human efforts
but because of the presence of the "Living God"
and His Word within us.
We do this by reading and meditating on the Scriptures.
The Gospels are saturated with instructions for us
to hear and obey the words of Jesus.
He says:
"If you abide in Me and My words abide in you,
ask whatever you will".

To "thirst" in this context is an abiding experience for us.
It means to hunger after, or to long for God.
A continual seeking after God
simply because he alone can satisfy our thirst.

Be assured my friends that we will be satisfied.
This should always be our foremost and top priority.
Jesus said
"He who comes to Me shall not hunger,
and he who believes in Me shall never thirst".

We should live with this promise day by day
for God alone can satisfy our thirst.
